PAIRING UP WITH JUDE

A cuddle with Jude Law? That must be something that most women could only dream about, but for 18 month old twins Bridie and Maisie Faughey from Basford it has been all in a day’s work. In the remake of the film Alfie, in which Jude stars, the identical girls played the son of one of Alfie’s girlfriends. Club member and very proud mum, Catherine Faughey, says:

I found out about this opportunity through TAMBA. When I joined, there was a form to return if you're interested in modeling or theatrical work. A few months later, TAMBA called to tell me that an Agent was looking for twins for a film. They had already seen lots of twins and singletons but hadn't found the right child yet and therefore not to expect too much.

We went the next day to London, and waited around for 3 hours before we were called to go to see the Director, Charles Shyer. He spent two minutes looking at my girls, didn't say anything other than "are they identical?" and then off we went. The 3rd Assistant Director then told us they had been given the part!

We had to go to London for the filming, and were put up in a hotel on the occasions the girls were needed. Luckily this didn’t interrupt work as Bridie and Maisie were only 5 months old at the time, so I was still on maternity leave. I had to leave my eldest daughter Emily with my parents whilst we were filming. The girls had to have licences from my local Council. They use identical twins because babies are only allowed to work for 5 hours and as filming often starts at 6.30 am and finishes around 6.30/7.30 pm, they can interchange the babies. Both girls had a scene each but it is only Maisie who made it into the film. Thankfully they behaved beautifully on set!!

The stars were great. On our first day, Nia Long, who plays the mother of the baby boy the girls played, came to our trailer and spent most of the morning with us playing with the twins and asking us loads of questions about them and what life is like with twins, and was just generally really friendly and down to earth. Jude was the same. Very friendly and very genuinely interested in the girls, talking and playing with them. He even brought his daughter over to meet them, and his nanny came over asking if they were the beautiful twins Jude had told her about!

How does it feel seeing them on the big screen? Unbelievably proud and very surreal!! They’re not the richest twins in the Club though! They only earned £500 between them. But I would most definitely do it again. I would recommend it to other parents if they are happy and able to give up entire days at the drop of a hat and rush off to London, where most of the castings are, which can be quite costly. The best way to get into this would be to join a reputable theatrical agency.
